Update on Positives
Since December 1st we have had more than 450 positive test results. Half of all of our positives results since the pandemic began have happened in the last 6 weeks.
Our numbers are at 911 positive, 9,214 negative, and 49 pending tests as of January 11th.
We will get back to a place where we can again gather as a community. Vaccinations are moving us very slowly towards that reality, we just are not there yet. By continuing best practices we can have the smoothest transition back to normal. Now is the time to double down on all of the great work we have done for the past 10 months. We all must make sacrifices to keep the schools open, keep our ski lifts turning, and save our businesses. We have been extremely successful to date. We ask that the community step up once more.
Another Community Testing Event
We have scheduled another community testing event. To sign up please visit covid19.gunnisoncounty.org/test. We will be at the Fred Field House in Gunnison from 7:00 AM-5:00 PM on Friday, January 15th. We will be at the Crested Butte Community School from 7:00 AM-5:00 PM on Saturday, January 16th. We encourage any and everyone to come get tested. This round will be a walk up testing site. We are encouraging everyone to get tested as this will give us a broader picture of the prevalence of the COVID-19 infection in our communities.
Vaccines
Please fill out our vaccine interest form that is live on vaccine information page on our website. We are building this database so that we can efficiently and equitably administer the limited vaccine doses that we are receiving.
While filling out this form will inform us of the number of people in each phase, it does not guarantee a vaccine in any timeframe. When your time comes in the phases, you will be notified to schedule an appointment. We ask that the community continues to be patient. With the varied and small number of doses we are receiving, this will be a process that goes on for many months. We ask that you go to the webpage and not call your primary care physicians or Health and Human Services.
For our vaccination clinic on Wednesday, we will be administering 420 doses of Moderna vaccine. Outside of a few health care workers, the vast majority of these doses will go to those in the 70+ age group. The spots were filled by randomly selecting individuals who are 70+ from our vaccine interest form database. If you have received a confirmation and cannot make your appointment, we ask that you please follow the link to inform the clinic of your availability. If you cannot make it, you will be dropped back into the pool of 70+ year olds to be randomly selected the next time around. For those spots that cancel, another will be randomly selected from the pool to fill the spot. This process will continue until all spots are full.
Virtual Town Hall
Our next Town Hall meeting will be at 4:00 PM on 1/14. Sign up ahead of time here.
If there is a topic you would like to see covered, please email ideas to, pio@gunnisoncounty.org.
Travel Quarantine Recommendation
We continue to recommend that anyone who travels out of the county for more than 24 hours to quarantine for 7 days upon their return to Gunnison County. We also recommend that visitors who come into the county isolate for 7 days prior to their arrival.
State Exposure Notification App
The state’s new exposure notification app is now live. Info on how to set it up can be found here. Even a small uptake of the app in our community can positively impact our outcomes. While alone it won’t be a game changer, combined with our other tools- social distancing, masks, hand hygiene- we can continue to reduce the spread.
Testing Site
The main testing site is located at Gunnison Valley Health and is open Monday through Friday. Testing requires an appointment ahead of time.
