Second Shipment of Vaccines

We are being told that we should receive our second shipment of vaccines tomorrow. We hope to see 600 doses of the Moderna vaccine. We plan to start administering these doses starting on 12/23 and finishing on 12/30. Here is a breakdown about the phases of vaccine delivery from the state.

We have also begun to develop a webpage with vaccine resources for those looking to learn more. We will continue to add resources to this page

While the vaccine is a light at the end of the tunnel, we are not done with the pandemic yet. We all need to continue the public health measures that we have committed to throughout this event.

Testing Site Results

We had a great turnout at both the Crested Butte and Gunnison testing sites. Between the two we ran 1,624 tests, 824 in Crested Butte and 800 in Gunnison. We expect that everyone who was tested on Thursday and Friday will begin to see their results on Tuesday. The tests from both days were sent to the lab as one large batch and they now are in the process of being run.

When you signed up for the testing event, you should have received an email from “CO-Gunnison County Public Health COVID-19 testing with Curative.” Within that email you have an “appointment reference number”. At the bottom of the email there is a link to check your results. You can also go direct to the www.curative.comwebsite with your “appointment reference number” and click the drop down menu and select “check result.”

It is possible to obtain a result that is neither positive or negative. Should this happen, you will receive a QNS result which stands for Quantity Not Sufficient. This means that the sample did not have enough material to be processed appropriately. Inevitably this will happen to a small portion of tests within such a large sample.

Travel Quarantine Recommendation

We continue to recommend that anyone who travels out of the county for more than 24 hours to quarantine for 7 days upon their return to Gunnison County. We also recommend that visitors who come into the county isolate for 7 days prior to their arrival.

Virtual Town Hall

Tonight’s Town Hall covered the concerning uptick in cases that we have seen locally. A recording and the presentation slides can be found here.

Our next town hall will be at 4:00 PM on 1/7/2021. Sign up ahead of time here.

We will be altering our schedule for the holidays. We will not run town hall meetings on the week between Christmas and the New Year. We will resume our normal Thursday schedule on 1/7/2021 at 4:00 PM.

If there is a topic you would like to see covered, please email ideas to, pio@gunnisoncounty.org.

Update on Positives

Our numbers are at 684 positive, 6,462 negative, and 29 pending tests as of December 21st. The data from the testing site will be uploaded into the dashboard as one large data dump once we receive results.

At a state level, hospitalizations and cases are coming down. This appears to be primarily driven by the front range counties that have enacted strict red level health measures. Locally, we saw a consistent plateau slightly lower than our November spike. Last week’s data shows an upward trend almost to the same level as our November spike. We have also continued to see covid positive patients showing up at the hospital. We have to act as a community to reverse this trend.

State Exposure Notification App

The state’s new exposure notification app is now live. Info on how to set it up can be found here. Even a small uptake of the app in our community can positively impact our outcomes. While alone it won’t be a game changer, combined with our other tools- social distancing, masks, hand hygiene- we can continue to reduce the spread.

The main testing site is located at Gunnison Valley Health and is open Monday through Friday. Testing requires an appointment ahead of time.
