Community Testing

The location of the testing event in Crested Butte has moved to the Buckhorn Airport across the street from Fire Station #4.

Our free testing event is available to anyone who would like a COVID-19 test. This test will provide a snapshot of if a person is actively infected with the virus. The hope is that we catch asymptomatic carriers before they spread the virus to others who may become more ill.

  • Thursday, December 17th will be at the Buckhorn Airport
  • Friday, December 18th will be at the Gunnison County Fairgrounds

Both sites will operate from 7:00 am – 5:00 pm. Lines will close at 5:00 pm, those in line at 5:00 pm get tested.

Vaccine Planning

We are prepared to begin Phase 1 of vaccinations next week. Incident Command is simultaneously preparing to launch the largest vaccine effort ever conducted while also continuing to respond to the pandemic. Many in the Incident Command group are pulling double duty. We ask for some grace from the community as we undertake this huge lift. We also ask that the community stay diligent in the public health measures as we work towards an eventual end to this crisis.

Update on Positives

Our numbers are at 606 positive, 5,913 negative, and 60 pending tests as of December 10th.

Virtual Town Hall

Today we had a presentation around mental health impacts and resources in the community. The recording and presentation can be found here.

Our next town hall will be at 4:00 PM for 12/17. We intend to bring together a panel of medical professionals to discuss vaccines. Sign up ahead of time here.

We will be altering our schedule for the holidays. We will change to 12/21 at 4:00 PM for the week of Christmas. We will be taking a week off of the town hall meetings on the week between Christmas and the New Year. We will resume our normal Thursday schedule on 1/7/2021 at 4:00 PM.

If there is a topic you would like to see covered, please email ideas to, pio@gunnisoncounty.org.

State Exposure Notification App

The state’s new exposure notification app is now live. Info on how to set it up can be found here. Even a small uptake of the app in our community can positively impact our outcomes. While alone it won’t be a game changer, combined with our other tools- social distancing, masks, hand hygiene- we can continue to reduce the spread.
