Updates
In an effort to open up some time for other tasks, we will be moving to a once per day update at 5:00 PM Monday-Saturday. We will however send out any “breaking news” as needed.
Business Resources
The county now has nine weekly industry subgroup meetings where business owners and leaders are discussing best practices on getting through the COVID-19 crisis by discussing controllable factors. Notes from these meetings are being shared with the Economic Task Force, which meets weekly as well. Resource requests and questions (139 so far) from the industry subgroups are being answered as quickly and completely as possible by the Economic Task Force. Summaries of this information can be found at https://covid19.gunnisoncounty.org/businesses/.
A Letter from Gunnison Watershed School District
Hello Gunnison Watershed School District Community –
This video message announces that GWSD is suspending in-person classes for the remainder of this school year for all schools in the district. Extracurricular activities, athletics, field trips, and all traditional end-of-year events as scheduled are canceled (this includes graduations).
E-Learning/Distance Learning continues according to our school calendar for the remaining 8 or 9 weeks of the year. Crested Butte’s spring break April 20-24 will occur as planned (no e-learning that week).
This is not a suspension of hope! By making this call, we eliminate tremendous uncertainty about what’s happening with the remainder of the school year. By knowing what is coming, we can focus our energies on creating the best e-learning/distance learning possible. We can also work hard to create the most meaningful end-of-year experiences possible, including graduations and more. We welcome and need your input for these milestone events! Please keep your ideas flowing with your teachers and principals.
I will continue to work tirelessly to eliminate internet access problems some families are facing. Spectrum is offering two months of free service to families with students. IC Connex is offering free service in their WiFi area in the City of Gunnison. IC Connex and Xtream Internet will troubleshoot particular cases to get families access. I’m working with ViaSat and HughesNet to find solutions for our families who need satellite internet. Customers can ask CenturyLink for the best speeds they can provide. The district still has Verizon hotspots available to provide internet service to families in range of cell service.
Grab-n-Go meal service will continue through the end of the year. Preschool tuition paid in advance and spring activity fees will be refunded in full. Summer Experience is still being planned! We are hopeful that we might still be able to offer a robust program this summer.
Watershed Family – we are Watershed Strong, and together we’ve got this. We remain committed to our mission of ensuring that every student succeeds. Thank you for partnering with us on this unexpected adventure.
– Leslie
